Caden

Now 16 and still reeling from another devastating loss, Caden is trying not to pull away from the people she loves.

From Interitas Volume 3: Unequaled

Caden Roth sat up on the colorful rainbow colored beach towel she had been lounging on and shielded her eyes against the glare of the sun to get a better look at the ocean in front of her. Somewhere, off in the distance, a thousand miles or more away, was a hurricane. It had already wreaked havoc, destruction, and death on its long, strange journey through the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and now churned malevolently out in the Atlantic. But it was too far away to give any hint of its presence here on the beach on Tybee Island. Instead it lurked just out of sight, perhaps trying to lull its next victims into complacency.

Caden shrugged and settled back on the beach towel to bake in the sun some more. Chronologically she was sixteen but in most other manners she was much older, both wise and unwise in the ways that too much knowledge, too much tragedy, and too much heartbreak fostered. She’d deal with the storm when she could see it. Until then she had other things to worry about.
