It had been a long time since Caden had seen Tommy O’Connor – a couple of years at least, long before the night he nearly beat his son to death and carved the word “FAG” on his stomach. He hadn’t changed much. He was a tightly coiled man in his late forties with lots of tattoos and a general air of menace that radiated off of him like the seismic waves of an earthquake.
Father and son stared at each other silently, not moving, while Caden, Jimmy, and Bridget watched, breaths held in anticipation of violence. It didn’t materialize. Tommy smirked a bit, tipped an imaginary cap, and walked away.
